OCD CENTRE VOLUNTEER MENTOR PROGRAM

With funding provided by the Winnipeg Foundation, the OCD Centre Manitoba has initiated a Pilot Project - Volunteer Mentoring Program.

Training of Volunteer Mentors will begin in October of 2009.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring occurs when a volunteer (MENTOR) engages in building a healthy, trusting relationship over a period of time with an adult consumer (MENTEE) who wishes to work on his or her own recovery.

OCD Centre Mentoring Program Goal

This person-centered program exists to match adults (mentees) with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) who wish to work on their recovery with the assistance of a trained volunteer mentor.

Who Can Be a Volunteer Mentor?

Any adult who is sensitive to mental health issues, willing to train as a volunteer mentor, and be matched with one or more adults with OCD who are working on his or her recovery.  Contact with mentees will be by phone once or twice a week as arranged between the mentor and mentee. A one-year commitment is asked for: this includes the training.

Who can be a Mentee?

Any adult with OCD who is willing to work towards Recovery.  This program does not replace any services the adult consumer is now receiving, but is seen as an adjunct to those services.
